Oh Thank You Mr. McCain... ;-)

Over the past decade our nation has gone through a historical shift in our economy. We have changed from a manufacturing and agricultural economy to a credit/financial one. I am reading a very good book that helps illustrate how our economy has been shifting and what has gone wrong. I recommend this book to everyone---- “Bad Money” by Kevin Phillips. It is very informative, but is very heavy-duty reading, so, don’t give up. I just keep plugging away trying to understand the complicated way in which this new system impacts our lives. We owe it to ourselves to be better informed than we have been in the past. Can we ever again just close our minds and trust our money managers, let alone our nation’s leaders not to lead us down the garden path? As a grandmother, I must remind you of that good old saying, “If it sounds to good to be true, it is.”

Ohh……there is so much more to discuss with regard to this financial crisis, I could bore you for hours. Right now, it’s hard to make heads or tails of what out senators, congressmen and president are telling us. I have had in-depth conversations with my son who is knowledgeable about the financial sector of our country. He feels that we are heading into a long and very difficult stretch, but he is adamant that this “bail-out/buy-out” is absolutely necessary, even though the government will be using our money. If we hold our elected officials accountable, we stand to make a good profit down the road. The conclusion I have reached is that the whole mess smells like rotten garbage, but I will go along with what is required of me to help get my nation back on track.

Speaking of what is required of someone, particularly someone who is running for the highest office in our land, are we now supposed to thank Mr. McCain for deciding to face ALL of the American public, rather than just his friendly Town Hall crowds? I am bothered by his recent politicking in so many ways that I hardly know where to begin. What I do know is that his announcement of suspending his campaign made me even more suspicious of him than I already was! To me this spoke of his true nature. He over-reacts and plows into decisions without carefully thinking them through and giving careful consideration to the far-reaching effects of his actions. A reasonable, level-headed person would have quietly removed himself from the campaign trail and left the grand-standing to his running mate. By choosing to postpone the debates, McCain would have cost the sponsoring universities and towns thousands of wasted dollars and hours of wasted time. These communities have been working on these events for months. They rely on volunteers and community backing. You don’t just willy-nilly delay one of the most important parts of the election process!! This is POOR, POOR  judgment and shows McCain’s lack of knowledge of how one hasty decision can have a large economic ramification which would be shouldered, ultimately, by his “friends on Main Street”.

Lest we forget, McCain has had 26 years in the senate to “get the job done” Meanwhile, our representatives are no closer to a deal today than they were yesterday, before McCain arrived. If anything, they are farther apart!  In other words, the senator’s “very important” trip back to the Capitol achieved absolutely nothing, except to further muddy the waters.

Once again, Barack Obama displayed deeper character and a more level-headed approach to balancing a difficult situation. I would absolutely trust his thinking in a time of crisis. He certainly demonstrated his ability to balance more than one ball in the air and to do so with the style and grace we would expect from the president of our country. Then, he showed true statesmanship and bi-partisanship by answering the call of his president to meet with him at the White House.

I must agree with you completely!

McCain shot himself in the foot, didn't he? Trouble is . . . he appears to be doing this on a daily basis!! That must hurt, you know.

I also am reading "Bad Money". Very interesting read. Your son is correct . . . we've got some rough times ahead of us. We'll need Obama's level-headedness for sure.

"Remember, as our guys says, "change doesn't happen from the top down , it happens from the bottom up". It's the older generation I've found to be the least likely to vote for Barack for reasons I find difficult to even express....if only more people were as open minded and progressive and loving as you.

McCain's entire campaign is one example of bad judgment after the next. Being "experienced" clearly isn't the same as having good instincts.
